Five pallets of protective material for Phebe and Curran Hospitals in Bong and Lofa Counties

Five pallets of protective materials landed in Robertsfield, Liberia, on Aug. 31, shipped by Global Health Ministries and paid for by Friends of Liberia. As you have often in the past, members of FOL continue to donate to a fund for Ebola Relief, giving more than $13,000 in August alone.

Global Health held the shipment until delivery of an earlier air shipment was confirmed by Phebe and Curran hospitals. This latest shipment included 20 cases of the DuPont Tychem QC hazmat suits, 6 cases of DuPont protective aprons, DuPont disinfectant spray, and lots of gloves, gowns, goggles, masks, and other supplies. The Lutheran Church in Liberia is serving as the lead for receiving, distribution, and accounting of these supplies in partnership with the Ministry of Health.

The other recipient of our donations so far, Doctors Without Borders is running intake centers in Liberia. Large International organizations, UNICEF, USAID, the government of Canada, among others, are delivering tons of supplies this week.

FOL’s Ebola Task Force is networking with several organizations doing grassroots work in Liberia to identify unmet needs, particularly at the village level. There is general alarm as the state of emergency continues in Liberia, shutting schools, limiting assembly, suspending other aid work, that the economy is suffering. The country will face a long recovery period even after the Ebola spread has been checked.
As it was during the civil war and its aftermath, FOL is committed to finding ways to help for the long run.
On Sept. 19, at the Columns Hotel on St. Charles St., New Orleans, the FOL Board will host a fundraiser as it gathers for its semi-annual board meeting. For more information, go to www.FOL.org
