Online sale of Liberian “LAMCO prints”

Marie and James Beebe have donated 9 framed and matted watercolor prints of various Liberian scenes by artist, Gustaf Roland Svensson. The Beebes bought the prints when they lived and worked in Liberia and have donated them to help FOL raise funds for our various projects.
The “LAMCO prints” were a limited edition made by Swedish artist Gustaf Roland Svensson (1910–2003) during a 1969 trip to Liberia. He was commissioned by the Liberian-American Mining Company to do sketches of their operations in Buchanan and Yekepa, where LAMCO had its iron ore operations. The resulting series of 20 views was collected in a portfolio that was given to departing LAMCO employees as a souvenir of their time in Liberia. It remains one of the most romantic sets of pre-war Liberian images. Svensson, known primarily as a book illustrator in Sweden, is represented in the Swedish National Museum, Gothenburg, Malmö, and Norrköping Museums.
