Skilled Job Training Part of ArcelorMittal Expansion

As part of expanding its mining operations,  ArcelorMittal has opened a $7 million Vocational Training Center for Liberian youth to become, at no cost, electricians, heavy-duty mechanics, and mechanical fitters.  The expansion will allow iron ore shipments to triple to 15 million tonnes each year.

New Factory in Montserrado County Recycles Scrap Steel

Pass Rate Doubled for High School Graduation Exam

This is the first year passing the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations is required to graduate from high school.  Saturday study sessions and mock exams implemented by the Ministry of Education are credited with helping 69 percent of examinees passing.

Railroad Upgrade Deal to Carry Guinea Iron Ore Not Signed Yet

The Fortescue Metals CEO has denied a Liberian Government announcement of a deal for the company to finance a railroad upgrade and extension to carry iron ore from Guinea to the Port of Buchanan.  So far, talks have only been introductory.
