The Liberian Coast Guard, in partnership with self-styled “eco-vigilantes” Sea Shepherd, patrols 370 km of coastline to prevent industrial fishing vessels from plundering coastal fisheries. Any illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing within six nautical miles of shore harms subsistence and artisanal fishing that supports 33,000 Liberians.
