From 1971 to 1973, Kelley served as a rural development Peace Corps Volunteer in Liberia, working in the Monrovia area and Kolahun, Lofa County. He extended his service for a third year in Gbarnga and later took on a short-term role as a training programs administrator before leaving Liberia in April 1975. Back in the United States, Kelley worked as a recruiter for Peace Corps’ Chicago Field Office beginning in August 1975 and then spent several years as an Africa Region Officer in the Peace Corps Office of Special Services through December 1982. Over the past year, Kelley has generously volunteered his time to assist with editing and finalizing the Friends of Liberia Annual Reports.
