The majority of FLI children have shown considerable progress at the end of the first program year compared to a norming population of American children.  During their second and third program year, however, many of the FLI children do not maintain the same level of progress.

These differences in growth patterns are explained by two factors:  the lack of testing experience for FLI children and differences in everyday life experience of FLI children compared to the norming population.
