FOL has begun accepting donations through our project page on GlobalGiving for our next Liberia Health Training for supervisory nurses and midwives! The workshop will be held January 11-15, 2021 at the Phebe School of Nursing.

Under the direction of Edwin Beyan, RN, BSc, MSNEd, DHS (candidate), the Liberian health team has been busy planning this new workshop since the completion of our first faculty health workshop in January 2020.

This continuing education workshop is for supervisory nurses and midwives who serve mothers, babies, children and adults in Liberia most affected by the lack of quality health care. You can help masters-level trainers provide up-to-date clinical information to practicing nurse and midwife supervisors from 20 hospitals. This goal of this five-day professional development workshop is to improve knowledge, skills, and competencies. They will also be trained to share their expertise with their staff.

Edwin and his team need our support! It is estimated that the past workshop participants represented approximately 4,500 nursing and midwifery students!  WOW! Your past support really did make a difference!

Our goal is to raise $10,000 to help fund a workshop for clinicians (supervisory nurses and midwives) from twenty medical facilities throughout Liberia. This will actually be one of two workshops in January 2021 that the FOL Liberian Health Team has organized and will carry out. The other workshop will again bring 20 faculty members from nursing/midwifery schools across Liberia together to share updated skills and knowledge—as they did in January 2020.

FOL made the decision to try something new and has formed an important partnership with GlobalGiving connecting us with nonprofits and donors around the world. The Friends of Liberia health project is called: Improving Nursing & Midwifery Care in Liberia. The links to the project page will go “live” and ready to accept donations on Monday, September 14 at 9am ET. The campaign ends at 11:59 PM September 30.

Your help in the process is greatly appreciated and needed. What can you do?

  1. If you want to be really involved, share the link with five people (or more!) and tell them why you support Friends of Liberia and why they should too!

  2. If you want to be really, really involved, you go to the project page in the lower right hand corner click on START A FUNDRAISER. You can set up a personal fundraising goal and get a personal link to the project to share with anyone you want. When they use the link you send them, any donations they make will count towards our $10,000 goal, they will get a “thank you” from us through the GlobalGiving project page, and their donation will also count toward your personal fundraising goal. If you choose not to “start a fundraiser,” then just share the link (short or long) above in an email with your network contacts—either will work!

  3. The nice part about using Global Giving, the “asking” part is all done for you on the project page. Your job is to connect to your friends, family, others in your network and share more about your connection to Liberia.

STAY TUNED! Updates about our progress will be shared, help us reach our goal!
