FHI 360 Scope of Work Liberia Transcript Review (PDF)
Period of Performance: January 13, 2013 – January 22, 2014
Background:
A 6.5-year, $16 million effort, STRIVE (Supporting Transformation by Reducing Insecurity and Vulnerability with Economic Strengthening) uses market-led economic strengthening initiatives to benefit vulnerable children by implementing four field projects in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. By tracking and documenting the impacts of these diverse interventions on child-level indicators related to both economic (financial), and non-economic (health, education, nutrition) vulnerability factors, STRIVE aims to fill current knowledge gaps about effective economic strengthening approaches and their impact on reducing the vulnerability of children and youth
Objective:
STRIVE is currently engaged in qualitative research on a project in Liberia, and requires assistance with reviewing and, where necessary, correcting transcripts of interviews.
Necessary skills/capacities:
– Familiarity with Liberian English required. Familiarity with one or more of the following dialects desired:
o Gio
o Mano
o Kpelle
– The consultant must provide computer equipment that can play MP3 audio files.
– The consultant must be able to use the Review function to track changes to the interview transcript in Microsoft Word. Interview transcripts are in US English.
– The consultant must furnish a working environment that preserves respondent confidentiality. No one else should be able to overhear interview playback or read the transcripts. The consultant must agree to not discuss anything heard in the interviews with anyone other than members of the FHI 360 research team.
Task:
– Listen to interviews of approximately 40-60 minutes each, and check that audio record matches the transcript for the recording.
o Make corrections to the transcript, such as adding questions or answers that appear on the audio recording, but are not in the transcript.
o Note if text in the transcript does not appear in the audio, or differs significantly from the audio recording.
